NorthStar Duo premiered “The Sky is Green” in 2019 at Longy School of Music as a Call for Scores submission, and again at NorthStar Duo Presents: Stronger Together, Group Muse recital series on March 25th 2021.

The Sky is Green is a work for flute and bari saxophone, named after the phenomena that occurs in the sky just before a tornado. It is not normal for this type of natural disaster to affect the Northeastern side of the United States, yet I experienced a tornado rip through my neighborhood in Massachusetts when I was a kid and upon remembering the events found great inspiration in the chaos of it all. The strange sensations are represented by extended techniques such as flutter tongue/ growling, key clicks, tremolo and non-pitched air blowing, as well as the rubato introduction. A whirlwind of through-composed material juxtaposed with tension building long melodies emulates my emotions during the situation."
