Originally composed for my undergrad composition recital Reflections of Our Natural World in 2019, "melting" is a piece about climate change anxiety. Featured in this video is trumpet player Matt Guevara.

We know that the consequences of the polar ice caps falling into the Atlantic ocean will be extreme, but it is impossible to imagine how our world will look and exist with those consequences until it happens. Along this vein of thinking, a nine note melodic figure is unveiled throughout the piece, never stated in full until the very end. It is scary how many intensely strange weather patterns have already occurred in the two years since I wrote this piece.
